As much as I love taking photographs and being the model, there’s time when I don’t know how to put my hands at all! Indeed, I often experienced those awkward moments. And trust me, I had tons of unsatisfactory photos. But now that I practice more, I get much better at posing. (Yes, practice makes perfect is defintely true!)
My daily routine includes a major part of social media. I open Instagram several times a day, sometimes for fun, sometimes for inspiration. Fashion bloggers like @Chiara Ferragni (oh who doesn’t follow her?!), @imjennim and @Chriselle Lim are some of my muses. But I recently discovered @kenzasmg and omg I instantly fell in love with her! Her sitting poses are sooooooo nice! She is super natural and elegant. Of course, french women are born with this!
I know most of you might already know how to appear taller when you are standing. But a more advanced skill is how to show off your long legs while you are sitting! New challenge huh? Keep reading to learn these secrets!
Tip 1 Cross your legs and slightly lean back.
Hat: Goring Brother’s $50 | Swimsuit: Robin Piccone $146 | Sunglasses: Karen Walker $280
Jacket: Topshop $100 | Skirt: Eileen Fisher $98 | Sneakers: Adidas $80
You don’t want to look stiff in the photos right? To look more casual, you need to pose naturally. Take a deep breath before you look at the camera and smile. I learned this trick from Tyra Bank when I watched American’s Next Top Model. She said you needed to hold your breath in order to look slimmer. I guess it helps you focus and give more emotion to the photos.
Tip 2 Open your legs and put your hands in between.
Jacket: Alexander Wang $638 | Jeans: 3 x 1 $295 | Boots: Kendall + Kylie $195
Hoodie: Disquared2 $191 | Leggings: Zella $34 | Sneakers: Nike $85
If you have time, you may want to spend some time browsing more of @kenzasmg‘s photo, you’ll see she loves sitting like this a lot. Perfect for your breezy Sunday look.
Tip 3 Flatten your legs and slightly cross your ankles.
Sweater: Spring Mozart $118 | Skirt: Y’s By Yohji Yamamoto $605 $181 | Heels: Head Over Heals $64
This is more like an extension of tip 1 actually. She leans back and puts her hands in the back to make the whole body look longer. And she looks at the sight. (This one is important if you want to look more elegant)
Tip 4 Close your legs and slightly put them aside.
Flats: Marc Jacobs $148
Dress: Badgley Mischka $297 | Flats: Steve Madden $70
This one is not that hard compared to others. You simply put them aside. But you need to watch out the angles. Don’t over do it and you should be fine.
Tip 5 Hold one foot with your hands and let the other one hang naturally.
She also uses this one a lot. As long as you feel comfortable, you can choose whichever you want. Though we are not professional models, it doesn’t harm to learn some tricks right? I hope you guys find this useful! Leave a comment below to share your tips of photography. I am more than happy to hear from you!
